Local Governance

Local governance in the country is the prime instrument of decentralisation at the grassroots level. It assumes importance due to the need to contain the relentless demographic pressures and optimum use of scarce resources for development. It is the most direct way for people to access basic services, to participate in public processes, and to exercise their rights and obligations.

Janpriya Sewa Sansthan is working on the local governance issue since the enactment of 73rd and 74th amendments to the Constitution of India. It has done the following:

Capacity building of panchayati raj institutions
Capacity building of sub-committees
Gram Sabha mobilisation
Urban municipal bodies

Workshops of panchayat representatives have been organised to discuss the points on education, government tube wells, hand pump, medical and health, animal husbandry, village development, etc.
